To Infinity and Beyond…

Guide books are necessary to give you an idea of what you may expect in a country or city you’ve never been to. However, part of the fun of traveling is discovering those things that do not appear in guide books. Get out and explore, I say. Talk to people and let them be your guide. A hostess at La Sagrada Familia suggested I skip the elevator tour and to visit the Centro Comercial de Las Arenas instead. I took her advice and glad that I did. It was well worth the Euro I paid to go to the top of the building. Not only is Centro Comercial de Las Arenas a shopping center built around an old bullring, but it’s also the highest point in the center of Barcelona. I was amazed at the incredible 360 degree view of the city and of the famous church by Antoni Gaudi.

As I made my way to the busy streets below, I noticed one street was blocked off. As I got closer I saw people dressed up in vibrant costumes. The sound of beating drums echoed. It was a carnival celebration. These are the people I photographed along the way.
